Nintendo Dominated Amazon's Best-Selling Games of 2017 List

Nintendo Dominated Amazon's Best-Selling Games of 2017 List

Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Pokemon all landed on Amazon's best-sellers list.

Amazon released its list of best-selling games on the company's online marketplace for 2017, and Nintendo absolutely slayed by claiming seven of the top 10 selling games for the year.

2017 was a great year for Nintendo that's for sure. After the Wii U failed to reach an audience, the Nintendo Switch needed to be a hit. Luckily for gamers, Nintendo delivered a quality gaming hardware with the Switch and both critical reception and hardware sales reflected that success.

Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch) took the top three spots in Amazon's best-sellers list for 2017. The three were followed by the PS4 exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn while Call of Duty: WWII took the next to slots after that because Amazon counted the PS4 and Xbox One versions separately. Nintendo then rounds out the list with Splatoon 2, Pokemon Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon, and Breath of the Wild again but this time for the Wii U.

Although the Switch only launched with one major game, Breath of the Wild's critical success was such that the momentum from the title carried it to plenty of Game of the Year awards (including ours). Nintendo then released a major software release at a near monthly clip, something that's reflected in Amazon's best-seller list.

Now here's hoping that Nintendo can repeat its strong first year in 2018.
