Nintendo Switch Online's NES Library Gets Two More Surprises

More SP versions in the NES Library.

Nintendo added some new NES games to its Nintendo Switch Online library today as part of a December update, and the company added a few surprises this time as well in the form of two new SP versions of games.

The Nintendo Switch Online NES library adds Adventures of Lolo, Ninja Gaiden, and Wario's Woods to the library, but the company also threw in SP versions of Dr. Mario and Metroid. The SP version of a game makes it so that players start with a little bonus or boost to make the overall experience a little more enjoyable for players who don't want to sit down and work the ladder.

The SP version of Dr. Mario doesn't actually make the game easier – it starts you off at level 20 in Hi speed. Instead, you'll be placed in a level where you can access end game content you'd otherwise have to play through in order to see. As for Metroid SP, Samus starts with all her abilities right before the Ridley fight, again more of a shortcut than boost.

Nintendo has thrown in surprise SP versions of NES games along with new titles and have made SP treatments of The Legend of Zelda and Gradius. We're starting to suspect these will be regular drops in Nintendo's monthly updates.
