No Man’s Sky Multiplayer Guide

Multiplayer has actually been in No Man’s Sky for a little while, but the NEXT update adds in the ability to truly work with other players and exist in the same world. There are new missions to carry out as a team, and you can either play along with a group of randoms or enlist your buddies for your galactic escapades. Being No Man’s Sky and all, things aren’t as straightforward as they could be, so we’ve been busy pulling together everything you need to get started.

How to Play Multiplayer in No Man’s Sky - How to Join a Game, How to Host a Game

In No Man’s Sky NEXT, you can play in teams of 4 and explore the galaxy together. Getting into a team, whether you’re playing with strangers or friends, can be a little tricky. Don’t worry though, as we’ve got everything you need in the list below:

  • Upon starting the game, after installing the update that is, you’ll be given the option to either “Play Game” or “Join Game”.
  • The former allows you to play the game as normal, and friends will be able to join.
  • Select Join a game and you’ll be presented with a few options.
  • From here you can see your friends if they are playing the game, you just need to select the friend you wish to join.
  • You can also join a random player too, by selecting “Join random player”.

No Man’s Sky Multiplayer Missions

Now that you’ve gathered together a group of pals, you’ll want something to do with them. You can actually take on missions in No Man’s Sky specifically geared towards multiplayer. These multiplayer missions can be picked up at the Galactic Commision Station at a Space Station.

Can You Run Into Other Players in No Man’s Sky NEXT

Many players were hoping to be able to run into other squads while out exploring. At present, it’s unsure whether or not this is possible. With the sheer size of the game it is at the very least highly unlikely that two groups would ever meet, though the patch notes do not mention any sort of shared server features. For now it seems, that you only share a world with your immediate team, though we will update this guide if things change.

That’s all you need to know about Multiplayer in No Man’s Sky. We’ll be sure to update this guide as we spend more time with the game, and as the exact nature of its multiplayer features become clearer. In the meantime, you can check out our guide on how to make money fast in No Man’s Sky. There’s also our No Man’s Sky Tips Guide, which has some beginner’s tips to help you get started.
