NPD: Five of August's Top 10 Best-Selling Games Were Nintendo Switch Exclusives

NPD: Five of August's Top 10 Best-Selling Games Were Nintendo Switch Exclusives

Astral Chain makes a surprisingly strong debut.

August's sales reports are rolling in, and Nintendo seems to be the big winner this summer. Per reports from the NPD group, five of August's 10 best-selling games were Nintendo Switch exclusive titles, though the annual reigning champion of August still holds the top spot.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses continues to lead the pack for Nintendo, coming in at the number four spot. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Mario Maker 2, and Mario Kart 8 all follow in order down the list, with newcomer Astral Chain sliding in at a surprising 10th place debut. For the first game in a series that seemed like it could be overshadowed by other massive Switch launches, that's an impressive result for the folks at Platinum.

Madden remains the king of August however, with a seventh consecutive year atop the August charts. August's results alone rank Madden NFL 20 as the third best-selling game of the year to date, only falling behind Kingdom Hearts 3 and Mortal Kombat 11. Madden is our annual reminder that the big fall launch season has started, and also, that football is back, y'all.
