Last month, Octopath Traveler released to some pretty glowing praise, from critics and fans alike. It was so popular in Japan, that it sailed to number one in the charts in its first week of launch, selling roughly 100,000 units in the country alone.
Now, less than a month removed from the global launch of Octopath Traveler, Nintendo has announced that the JRPG has surpassed one million global sales. Definitely a grand feat, especially for a JRPG that largely bet on nostalgia for the 16-bit era of games.
Thanks to your incredible support, #OCTOPATHTRAVELER has now shipped 1 million units globally, including #NintendoSwitch #eShop downloads. The developers at Square Enix would like to thank you for making this possible. pic.twitter.com/qAjYAwYPLBNintendo UK (@NintendoUK) August 3, 2018
Back when it launched, USgamer praised Octopath Traveler, with our Nadia Oxford writing that its "attempt to balance old and new JRPG mechanics is impressive, and mostly successful. We've also ranked all eight Octopath Traveler characters, of which there are eight distinctive characters, each with their own shining (or gloomy) personalities.
