Original Star Wars Battlefront 2's Multiplayer is Back Online, Supports Crossplay Between GOG and Steam
There are reports of technical issues at the moment.
Star Wars Battlefront 2, not the upcoming EA game but Pandemic's 2005 sequel, just had its online functionality restored. Even better there's now added crossplay support between GOG Galaxy and Steam.
Star Wars Battlefront 2, the original Battlefront sequel, is one of the most popular Star Wars games from its generation of consoles. GOG's announcement that Star Wars Battlefront 2's restored online mode means that players can now play the classic multiplayer mode on PC again across two different clients. The restored multiplayer functionality apparently came as part of a deal with Disney.

However, reports are coming in that the game is suffering from some difficulties connecting to servers, or serious lag. GOG's technical staff is currently investigating the problem, including an issue where the game appears to be freezing when players try to jump into multiplayer. GOG so far believes that this is due to overwhelming traffic.
This isn't the first time Star Wars Battlefront 2's online was available on PC. Players who wanted to really play the game's multiplayer modes often found ways to access unofficial servers, but now anyone can play online without mods, granted GOG solves the technical issues soon.
As an added result of the Disney agreement, several classic Star Wars games are on sale now at GOG Galaxy if you're interested in more Star Wars classic goodness. At least for the time being until Battlefront 2 is properly up and running.
