Overwatch Lunar New Year Event Includes Six Legendary Skins, and New Thailand Map

Capture the flag has also been revamped.

Overwatch is once again hosting a Lunar New Year event this year to celebrate the Year of the Dog. It will be begin February 8, and a new developer update video with director Jeff Kaplan lays out what you can expect from the event including a new map, and a revamped capture the flag mode.

First thing, there's going to be a new map based in Thailand for the event this year. It's designed specifically for the capture the flag event. "One side of the map is ancient and shows some temple that's very gorgeous and the other side is bright and beautiful and very modern," says Kaplan.

The rules have been changed for this year's capture the flag event. There will be no more draws as Kaplan says that draws just have a tendency to leaves nobody happy. Instead, there will be a Sudden-Death mechanic that triggers in the event of a tie. The flags for both teams will rest but move closer together to the center of the map. The shorter distance means the decisive point will be determined rather quickly.

There are also restricted abilities like invulnerability and speed boosts which will automatically trigger you to drop the flag. For example, Winston's leap will cause a flag drop. As a balance, picking up fags will be instant this time around.

Capture the flag will be offered as a four-week competitive season, with special rewards for those who make it to the top of the rankings, and rewards for those who simply participate.

There will be six new legendary skins as well, with skins confirmed for Genji and Mercy, along with Widowmaker based on the thumbnail of the video.
