Overwatch Summer Games 2018 Event Begins Next Week

Two years later, the Summer Games from Rio live on.

The Summer Games event was first introduced for Overwatch back in 2016, to mark the Olympic Games being held in Rio de Janeiro. The event is now set to return for the second time, next week in August.

The tweet below from the official Overwatch Twitter account revealed the Summer Games 2018 event will begin on August 9, which means there's less than a week until the event kicks off. The brief teaser gif doesn't give away much, but does reveal that Lucio Ball will return, and the event will run on until August 31.

Although we don't know much about the third annual Summer Games event for Overwatch, we can safely assume that there will be some brand new character skins available in loot boxes throughout the event. Blizzard always introduce at least several new skins with each event, and also make past skins from the same event available for purchase, usually for around 3,000 coins.

You might remember that in 2017's Summer Games event, the Soldier: 76 'golf swing victory pose 'Grillmaster' skin was introduced, as was 'Lifeguard' McCree, both of which you can see just above.
