Overwatch's New Map is a Gorgeous, Grim Space Colony You Can Play Right Now

More like "Moon of the Apes" am I right?

Today, Blizzard announced the new Horizon Lunar Colony map for Overwatch. The space map was teased earlier with some recovered "transmissions" from the lost moon station. The Horizon Lunar Colony map is also available right now on the PTR if you just can't wait to play on the moon. The map was announced in a brand new trailer that's surprisingly kind of dark.

The Horizon Lunar Colony stage is an Assault map based on the scientific research facility that raised Winston alongside a class of other genetically enhanced apes. The press release describes the map as the first step in humanity's renewed interest in space exploration that also happened to research the effects of long term space living on humans and apes.

The trailer details how Winston was raised on the Horizon Lunar Colony with the scientists and other gorillas. One (lunar) day, the other apes decided to rebel against the scientists, "Planet of the Apes"-style. The other gorillas overtook the Colony forcing the scientists and Winston, who sided with the humans, to escape as the apes remained on the moon. Honestly it's kind of a somber trailer that plays out not unlike the recent Planet of the Apes films which are both melancholy and gritty.

It's up to players to return to the Colony and battle it out for moon supremacy while also uncovering clues about what exactly happened on the Colony in the years that passed since Winston escaped and became Earth's greatest gorilla champion.

As previously mentioned, the map is already available for players to test in the PTR, so strap on some space gear and go bananas in Overwatch's latest combat zone.
