Hi-Rez Studio is tossing its popular free-to-play hero shooter, Paladins, into the battle royale fray. The studio announced a new PUBG-like mode for 2018 aptly titled, Paladins: Battlegrounds.
Despite its title, Hi-Rez Studios is quick to point out that where Paladins: Battlegrounds differs from other battle royale games like PUBG and Fortnite: Battle Royale is that not only is the combat hero-based, but Paladins: Battlegrounds is meant to be played in teams.
Aside from that however, everything remains the same. A hundred players are dropped onto a large island map where they must scavenge for loot and survive to be the last hero standing. The playing field will shrink over time as a deadly fog begins to close in on the island, forcing players to come closer and closer to one another as the game nears the end.
Hi-Rez released a new trailer for the mode and despite the blatant naming of the new mode, tries its best to convince players that Paladins: Battlegrounds is staking new ground with its hero approach to battle royale.
Paladins is yet another game jumping in on the battle royale craze started by PUBG. In 2017 Epic Games also added a battle royale mode to Fortnite which was originally concieved as a crafting survival game. We analyzed that in 2018 more games will try to capitalize on the incredibly popular battle royale genre. So we should probably expect even more battle royale style modes from other games in the near future.
