Pillars of Eternity 2's First DLC Coming This August

Obsidian Entertainment will be expanding and updating Pillars of Eternity 2.

Obsidian Entertainment and publisher Versus Evil have announced when players can expect the first downloadable content release for Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. The first expansion will be Beast of Winter, which is planned for release on August 2, 2018.

"Upon receiving a missive from an isle of worshipers to the god of entropy and disaster, Beast of Winter takes the Watcher and his crew to the southernmost reaches of the Deadfire Archipelago. The Watcher is thought to be the harbinger of the end of all things and worshipers of the god of cold and decay, Rymrgand, have called upon the Watcher to fulfill their destiny," says Obsidian's summary of the DLC's story.

Beast of Winter will launch alongside the "major" 2.0 update for Pillars of Eternity 2. The update will be free to owners of the current game, offering bug fixes and balance improvements to the title. There will be new challenge modes, tasking players with completing tasks fit for veterans.

There's also a free DLC coming at the same, entitled The Deck of Many Things. The DLC features the eponymous merchant ship arriving in the Deadfire Archipelago looking to sell its magical wares from far off lands.
