Update: Brendan Greene has confirmed that the FOV Slider and first-person servers will drop in the July update.
"We will bring 1st person only to EU/NA SOLO & DUO games first, and once we have polished the system, we will expand to other regions," Greene followed up in a second tweet.
The rumors of a First-Person server was first hinted at earlier this week when a developer on Battlegrounds, Smookie, suggested that an FOV slider was already implemented internally, and was in the middle of testing.
As our colleagues at VG24/7 pointed out, Greene himself also addressed the issues in the Battlegrounds Discord forums where he wrote:
"Dedicated first-person servers will take some time as it requires a lot of work from all teams, [it's] not as easy as just flipping a switch. Our game, platform, engineering, and gameplay teams all need to do work to make it happen, and they are all quite busy with optimisation work at the moment!"
First-person perspective holds quite a lot of sway with fans of military shooters, who claim that it makes for a more realistic experience. Greene himself is an ardent proponent of realism in his shooters, often talking in length about physics and gravity and all manner of mechanics that lend a little veritas to his shooter. With an incoming FOV Slider, the more hardcore fanbase will no doubt be thrilled.
