PlayStation Paris Games Week 2015: Everything You'll Want to Play

PlayStation Paris Games Week 2015: Everything You'll Want to Play

Here's everything from Sony's Paris Games Week 2015 presentation in one place. We don't want to waste your time.

Tomorrow begins the Paris Games Week show taking place in the Paris expo Porte de Versailles conference center in Paris, France. The show will stretch from October 28 to November 1, but before everything kicks off, Sony Computer Entertainment decided that it had some things to say. Today, Sony offered up a number of announcements at its Paris Games Week presentation.

Quantic Dream's new game is coming.

Some of the announcements were simply trailers and additions for games that we already knew about, but there was some brand-new info from the show. I'll start with that and work my way back to the smaller stuff.

The New Stuff

Detroit: Become Human

Detroit: Become Human will be the first game from Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream on PlayStation 4. Surprisingly enough, Detroit looks like it has its genesis in Kara, the PlayStation 3 tech demo Quantic Dream founder David Cage showed off at Game Developers Conference 2012, containing similar scenes of a woman being constructed in a factory. The trailer seems to be concerned with Kara finding her freedom and sense of self in a world where androids like her are simply tools. Is this the beginning of an android revolution?

No release date was given.

Gran Turismo Sport

The next version of Gran Turismo is coming! GT Sport looks to be everything that Driveclub was supposed to be, coming from Polyphony Digital in collaboration with the International Automobile Federation (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile, a.k.a. FIA). The power of the PlayStation 4, online racing, and Polyphony's eye for detail all meet in this new title. According to the presentation, players online can apparently support their favorite auto manufacturers and represent their countries in online races. And the game will extend into the real world.

"In Gran Turismo Sport, there will be two FIA online championships running simultaneously. In the Nations Cup, players will be able represent their home country. Whilst in the Manufacturers Cup, players will be driving on behalf of their favorite car manufacturer," wrote GT European brand manager Penrose Tackie.

"Players will not only be able to race as drivers themselves, they'll also be able to root for their home country or their favorite manufacturers teams. The winner of the championship will be awarded in the same manner as real life motorsports champions, at the FIA prize giving ceremony. This will be a historic moment, the first time a video game will officially be recognized as part of the real motoring world."

GT Sport is entering beta in Spring 2016, so at least it'll be here sooner rather than later. The game will also be PlayStation VR compatible, since that's what Sony really wanted to flog at this presentation.

Tekken 7

Bandai Namco revealed that the next Tekken 7 is finally on its way to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game will still focus on the crazy Mishima family: Heihachi, Kazuya, Kazumi, and Jin Kazama. Bad parenting, demons, and lots of punching; it's all heading your way eventually. According series director and producer Katsuhiro Harada, the game will feature PlayStation-exclusive content upon release.

When is that release coming? No clue. It will support PlayStation VR though! Are you excited?

Until Dawn: Rush of Blood

This is an odd title, one that seems to be "Until Dawn" in name only. The title is being developed exclusively for PlayStation VR as an on-rails shooter experience exploring the madness of one of the characters from the original game. Think of this as Until Dawn's version of Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.

"Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is a descent into madness, taking you on a terrifying rollercoaster ride of thrills and scares in a fast-paced, arcade-style shooter," explained Supermassive Games executive producer Simon Harris.

No release date was given, but if this is what's needed for a proper Until Dawn sequel, I'm down.

Driveclub Bikes

Not to be overshadowed by Gran Turismo, Evolution Studios announced Driveclub Bikes, a standalone release and expansion for the original Driveclub. The game focuses on superbike action with 12 superbikes from manufacturers like Yamaha, Ducati, Kawasaki, and Honda. Players get a full campaign, new challenges and events, and the same multiplayer online and vehicle customization options you'd expect from Driveclub.

The best part is Driveclub Bikes is available today. If you're buying Driveclub bikes alone, it's $19.99, but if you already own the original game, it's only $14.99.

New, Smaller Titles

Boundless by Wonderstruck

It feels like somewhere in-between No Man's Sky and Minecraft, you'll find Boundless.

"Boundless is a super ambitious PS4 and PC cross-platform game where everyone (Yes, everyone!) plays together in a single online universe," explained Wonderstruck director James Austin. "Your homeworld in Boundless looks and feels unique, procedurally generated to look like no other. You don't like it? Hey, acid rain can be a serious drag. No worries! Build a Portal and instantly step into another world in the Boundless universe."

"When you find that world you really like (you know, the one with that amazing waterfall), why not make if your official home and claim some land using a Beacon? Any land you claim will become yours, and yours alone to change," he added. "That is, of course, unless you want some neighbors, in which case invite your friends and form a guild. Share land, resources, build amazing things, and go on some adventures together. Compete with other guilds and become the most loved, or feared, group in the universe."

Robinson: The Journey by Crytek

Crytek's new PlayStation VR-exclusive title places you in the shoes of a young boy stranded on an alien world. The game springs out of Crytek's own Dinosaur Island VR demos.

"A lot of the reaction we received to the Back to Dinosaur Island demos was about how authentic the environments felt - the foliage, the lighting, the dinos, etc. People really seemed to respond positively to the level of visual fidelity, and we do believe that this can set a VR experience out from the crowd and take the feeling of being present to a whole new level," wrote Crytek executive producer Elijah Freeman.

"What are we striving to achieve with Robinson: The Journey? You could say it's about recreating that level of authenticity on a much, much grander scale. That means not just making something visually stunning, but also telling a story that is emotionally engaging and which resonates with players beyond the game world."

Vector by Hello There

Vector is a music game designed in collaboration with electronic musician Avicii.

"Vector is a multiplayer music game, offering a seamless fusion between gameplay, graphics, and music. The idea is a responsive experience, where you and your friends' performance not only affect the race and final rankings, but will also bring dynamic changes to the music and environment, which will make each race feel like your own little remixed version of that particular track," said Hello There's Oskar Eklund.

Matterfall by Housemarque

The folks behind Super Stardust and Resogun are back with an all-new PlayStation 4-exclusive action game.

"MatterFall follows an unexpected hero fighting for survival on a ravished sci-fi world infected by a mysterious and deadly alien material known only as "Smart Matter." Using agility and powerful weaponry you must explore this new world and utilize your own control over the Smart Matter to uncover the mystery of this new threat and save the day before it threatens the very existence of the human race," explains the game's announcement post.

M.H. Williams is new to the journalism game, but he's been a gamer since the NES first graced American shores. Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
