Sony has announced the next set of free games coming to PlayStation Plus subscribers in June. They are Sega's critically acclaimed Sonic revival, Sonic Mania, and Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.
The timing for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection works out great considering Borderlands 3 was just recently announced. This is a great way to play Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel before Borderlands 3 comes out on September 13.
The 2015 Handsome Collection, which doesn't include the first game, does offer 4K support on PS4 Pro, which is an excellent way to play two great loot shooters. You can check out our Borderlands 3 preview for our hands-on impressions of Gearbox's upcoming irreverent shooter.
As for Sonic Mania, the 2017 platformer is basically a modern classic Sonic game. Developed by a team consisting of famous Sonic fan developers like Christian Whitehead, Sonic Mania has everything you love about games like Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and gives it a fresh spin. You can expect creative branching levels, fast 2D traversal, and colorful 16-bit graphics. Check out our Sonic Mania review and our ranking of best Sonic games to see where Mania ranks.
You still have time to pick up May's PlayStation Plus games which includes the co-op crowd pleaser Overcooked, and the emotionally devastating What Remains of Edith Finch. As a reminder, Sony has stopped offering PS Vita and PlayStation 3 games as part of its PlayStation Plus subscription service.
