PlayStation Preview Program Will Test 16-Player Parties

Now if only I had 15 friends.

PlayStation has announced a test update for parties on the PlayStation 4, which will increase the number of players possible in a party to 16. To run a final check on the new feature, it's launching a preview program you can sign up for right now.

There is a small catch: once you're in the preview, you can only party up with those who are also in the preview program. That extends to Share Play as well. But if you do make it in, Sony says in their blog post that it will be providing a code that can be redeemed by 20 different accounts allowing similar access, so you can get all your friends in on the test too.

The preview program update also comes with early access to chat transcription, which can convert party voice chat to text on a second screen using an app. You can also input text on the app to upload to the party, to be read aloud for your other party members. This feature is only available in the US, in English, but it's a nice tool for deaf or hard-of-hearing players.

If you want to sign up for the preview program, you can head over to the PlayStation sign-up page. And while Sony is skipping the big event this year, there still seems to be plenty of PlayStation news coming ahead of the big show.
