Pokemon Go Gen 4 Teased as Chimchar, Piplup and Turtwig Appear in Promo Art

The Gen 4 starters can be spotted in social media posts celebrating Pokemon GO’s two-year anniversary.

Niantic has seemingly teased the addition of generation 4 pokemon to Pokemon GO in a post over on its Twitter account. If you look closely you can see the Gen 4 starters.

The post in question was posted in celebration of Pokemon GO’s two-year anniversary, and features a host of pokemon that already feature in the game. On top of that though, Chimchar, Piplup and Turtwig can be spotted in the image, pokemon which first appeared in the generation 4 games Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.

Currently, Pokemon GO only features gen 1, 2, 3 and Alolan-form pokemon, so fans are currently eagerly awaiting news for a gen 4 update to come to the hit mobile game. This is the first time we’ve seen gen 4 pokemon feature in any Pokemon GO promo art of any kind, so signs point to an announcement sooner rather than later.

Many fans are pointing to this weekend’s Pokemon GO Fest event which takes place in Chicago. The event would be a great place to make such a huge Pokemon GO announcement, though we will have to wait and see whether or not it comes to fruition.

You can read more about the upcoming Pokemon GO Fest event, which is giving trainers around the world a chance to bag a Shiny Zapdos, in our Pokemon GO Fest Guide. We’ve also got plenty more on Pokemon GO in our Pokemon GO Guides hub, like tips on the game, info on upcoming events, and strategies for the game’s Raid Battles.

Sometimes we include links to online retail stores. If you click on one and make a purchase we may receive a small commission. See our terms & conditions.
