Pokemon Movie Taps Gravity Falls and Guardians of the Galaxy Writers

Legendary Pictures is negotiating with some solid writers for its Great Detective Pikachu live-action film.

Legendary Pictures is currently in negotiations with screenwriters Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch to script its upcoming live-action Pokemon film, according to a report by Variety.

Nicole Perlman is formerly of Marvel Studios' writing room. She was a script doctor for Thor, co-wrote Guardians of the Galaxy with director James Gunn, is currently on tap to write the upcoming Captain Marvel film with Inside Out writer Meg LeFauve. Alex Hirsch is the lead writer and creator of Gravity Falls, the animated comedy series that just ended its run on Disney XD. Solid names for a family-friendly animated film.

The planned film is reportedly based on the Great Detective Pikachu concept kicked off by The Pokemon Company and Nintendo in a Japanese 3DS release earlier this year. The game follows the adventures of an intelligent talking Pikachu and his young human sidekick Tim Goodman.

The Pokemon film is supposed to begin production in 2017. Of course, Legendary has to find a director first.

M.H. Williams is new to the journalism game, but he's been a gamer since the NES first graced American shores. Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
