Pokemon Sleep Wants to Turn "Sleep Into Entertainment"
The Pokemon Company wants to game sleep like it gamed walking.
Tonight at the Pokemon 2019 Press Conference, Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara revealed the next direction for Pokemon proper. If Pokemon Go was the first step, turning walking into entertainment, then this is the expansion. The new title is called Pokemon Sleep.
"Exploring the real world was one of the themes of Pokemon Go. We believe we are able to take the simple human walking of walking and make it entertainment for many people around the world. After walking, we decided to focus on the act of sleeping," said Ishihara.
The Pokemon Company is working alongside Nintendo and Niantic to find more ways to turn resting into gameplay. Pokemon Sleep will be backed up by another hardware device, the Pokemon Go Plus+. It works much like the existing Pokemon Go Plus, but it's a bit flatter, allowing you to lay it on your bed at night to track sleep.
Pokemon Sleep is being created in collaboration with Select Button, developer of Magikarp Jump. Sleep looks to be aimed at Android and iOS mobile devices, though no specific platforms were named. It's coming in early 2020 and we'll have more information as it's revealed by the Pokemon Company.
