Bethesda Softworks announced today that Arkane Studios' Prey will be coming to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on May 5, 2017. The first-person science-fiction action game is the culmination of a decade of various studios plugging away at a sequel to 2006's Prey.
"When you awaken aboard Talos I, an immense space station orbiting the moon in the year 2032, you find yourself as the key subject of an experiment meant to alter humanity forever – but things have gone terribly wrong. The space station has been overrun by hostile aliens and you are now being hunted. As you dig into the dark secrets of Talos I and your own past, you must survive using the tools found on the station, your wits, weapons, and mind-bending abilities to defeat the Typhon alien threat," says Bethesda in a synopsis.
If Arkane Studios' Dishonored was a spiritual successor and modern take on the classic Thief franchise, the Prey reboot looks to draw inspiration from System Shock (much like the BioShock games). Player character Morgan Yu is trapped aboard a derelict station with only past recordings of their older self, dead bodies, and a host of aliens for company. Like Dishonored 2, the player can choose either a male or female character, only this time, both characters are Morgan Yu.
Players who want some free stuff can pre-order Prey to get the Cosmonaut Shotgun Pack. The pack comes with Morgan Yu's family heirloom Margrave shotgun, three Neuromods to unlock new abilities, two Medkits, a Fabrication plan to make ammo for your shiny shotgun, a starter kit for building tools and weapons, and a special resource upgrade.
