Ubisoft hasn't entirely forgotten that Prince of Persia exists. The character appeared in For Honor as a limited time mode, and was the focus of a VR escape room called Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time. But fans have been waiting for anything Prince of Persia since the release of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands in 2010.
Now there's a little bit of hope. Listings for a Prince of Persia remake for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch appeared on the website of Guatemalan retailer Max, as noticed by a keen Redditor. The listings have since been removed, but we can confirm both did exist.
The question is which games are being remade? The concept art recalls the later games, Prince of Persia (2008) and Forgotten Sands. It could be Sands of Time, the much-beloved original reboot. It's worth noting that it's listed as a remake, not a remaster, so it's probably an expanded version of a single game.
Normally, this wouldn't be enough to report on, but Bloomberg's Jason Schreier is indicating on Twitter that it was potentially a surprise announcement. Ubisoft does have a second Ubisoft Forward digital event planned for September, but there's been no specific date given for that event. The reveal of a Prince of Persia remake would've been a great capper to the overall event.
With the Prince returning, perhaps there's hope for Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher as well? There's another character who's appearing in everything, including Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Rainbow Six Siege, and the mobile game Elite Squad, rather than his own series. Given its around the seventh anniversary of Splinter Cell: Blacklist, I'm holding out hope. The Prince and Sam Fisher are both too important to the history of Ubisoft to be forgotten.
