PlayerUnknown's Battleground patch Update 22 introduces a proper ranked mode to the competitive battle royale game. It is currently in PTR and will roll out early October for all players.
PUBG has always used a skill-based matchmaking system, but the new ranked mode should further help match players with opponents of a similar skill. And hopefully pair novice players with players more in-line with their abilities. I count myself in with the latter.
There will be eight ranks total ranging from Bronze to Grandmaster. Players will need to play 10 matches to get sorted into their first rank, and promotions/demotions will be determined by Rank Points earned. Here's a full chart of the different ranks and required Rank Points.
In addition to the new Ranking System, Update 22 introduces a proper region locking feature where players will be sorted to the server of their region. As previously discussed if two players from different regions group up then matchmaking will determine which is the best region to play on.
Map selection also returns with players now being able to choose between Erangel, Miramar, and Sanhok instead of deciding between Sanhok or either Erangel and Miramar. The Quick Join option will simply throw the player into whichever map has the shortest matchmaking time.
