PUBG Xbox Update 9 Release Details Coming Soon, Scary Boat Noises Fixed

RIP gunfire boat.

If you're a console-loving schlub like myself and you play PlayerUnknown's Battlegrouds on the Xbox One, you'll be happy to learn a big patch for the game is coming very soon.

Nico Bihary, Microsoft's Executive Producer, rolled out the news about the patch ("Patch 9") on the Xbox One PUBG subreddit. "Just wanted to let you all know that Patch 9 is now formally in test," he says. "We are feeling pretty good about the quality of the patch and the incoming improvements to the player experience.

Patience is a very helpful virtue when you play PUBG. Doubly so if you're an Xbox player waiting on updates.

Bihary adds he wants to get the patch out into the wild as soon as possible, but its code needs to be checked over for errors first. More news about the update should be coming later this week.

Here's one supposed fix that ought to soothe your jangled nerves: The boat will no longer make gunshot sounds when you ride it across the waves. Admittedly, if I ran a contest as twisted as PUBG's battle royale, I'd keep the boat-gun sounds just to keep watching people abandon ship in the middle of the river.

PUBG is also available (and optimized) for PC. China has a beta mobile port up and running, and it's an interesting piece of work that's full of surprising design compromises.
