Rainbow Six Siege Coming to PS5, Xbox Series X on Day One

"Our target is to be available right at launch."

Ubisoft just confirmed that Rainbow Six Siege will be coming to both PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series x. Not only that, but if all goes as planned, the shooter will be available for the new consoles on launch day.

Speaking to WindowsCentral, Rainbow Six Siege game director Leroy Athanassof said that "What I can tell you is that we are going to be on [the consoles] from launch. For Siege, our target is to be available right at launch."

Athanassof was understandably mum on potential release dates for PS5 and Xbox Series X. "When they will release the consoles; but that's up to them to agree that." he said.

Additionally, Rainbow Six Siege will feature cross-gen multiplayer matchmaking. "That means that if you play on the next PlayStation, you will be able to matchmake with the previous PlayStation," Athanassof explained. It's certainly a promising sign that Ubisoft is determined to keep Siege's player base for each console intact over the cross-gen transition.

Elsewhere in Rainbow Six news, Quarantine, the outbreak-themed spin-off shooter, is slated for release at some point between October and December 2020. After being revealed at E3 2019, we've seen relatively little from the next game in the Rainbow Six series.

Currently, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are slated to launch at some point during Holiday 2020. While the Xbox Series X's design has actually been revealed by Microsoft, all we know about Sony's next console is that the controller might feature back paddles.
