Record Spider-Man Sales Make History on PS4

NPD for September 2018

The video game sales data for September are out and it’s a big year for everyone’s favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Not only did Insomniac’s Spider-Man game launch on the PS4 that month, but it broke a lot of sales records in the process.

Marvel’s Spider-Man was the best-selling game of September and achieved the highest launch month dollar sales for a PlayStation exclusive in history. It’s also the seventh largest launch ever on a PlayStation console. Spider-Man has only been out for a month and it’s already the third best-selling game of the year ahead of titles like Monster Hunter: World and Madden NFL 19. You can read our Spider-Man review here, or check out our Spider-Man guide.

September was also a good month for a lot of franchise titles. NBA 2K19 debuted at number two in September and had the highest launch sales for any sports game since the NPD Group began tracking sales in 1995. Naturally it’s the biggest launch of any NBA 2K game as well.

Meanwhile Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey saw double-digit sales growth over the launch of last year’s Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Forza Horizon 4 had the largest launch of any other Forza game, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider became the second highest launch game for a Tomb Raider title after Tomb Raider 2013. We have the full list of top-selling games for September 2018 below.
