Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War Tie for Most Nominations at The Game Awards

Celeste makes a strong showing.

The nominations for this year's Game Awards were revealed today on a live stream and Sony Santa Monica's God of War and Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2 both came out on top with eight nominations apiece. But there were some surprises as well.

This year's Game of the Year conversation has been dominated by games like Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War, and Spider-Man and no surprise they're all nominated for this year's GOTY award. There was a particularly strong showing by Celeste, an indie game by Matt Makes Games that came away with four nominations including GOTY.

The Game Awards hosted by Geoff Keighley is one of the biggest video game awards of the year and the ceremony often provides world premiere exclusives like new trailers and reveals. The awards will stream on December 6 on YouTube, Twitch, Mixer, Facebook, and pretty much any other service you can get live video content on. Here's the full list of nominees:
