Whether it's been a long time since you've touched anything on physical media or you've been renting since before the GameCrazy days, it may be worth checking out Redbox kiosks in your vicinity. A little over a week ago Redbox announced that it's no longer renting games, and now there's a clearance sale going that'll let you pick up some recent titles at a decent discount.
Redbox's website is advertising the clearance sale with a few deals up top—Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for $29.99 USD, Death Stranding for $24.99, Spider-Man for $9.99—but the discounts are pretty steep on a lot of 2019 titles as well. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order can be picked up for $24.99. Borderlands 3, Madden NFL 20, Resident Evil 2, and Devil May Cry 5 have all been slashed to $14.99 (and yes, the prices are the same across the PS4 and Xbox One).
Depending on where you live, you may be able to find some discounted Switch games too. Redbox only tried Switch rentals in select cities as part of a trial, and the selection is pretty limited. You won't be able to pick up Pokemon Sword or Shield, but considering that Nintendo's first party titles can take a while to drop in price, picking up Super Mario Maker 2 or Yoshi's Crafted World for under $20 isn't too bad.
Deals aside, Redbox's game rentals and purchases are being phased out without much fanfare. Last week, Redditors noticed that the kiosks no longer presented an option to rent games—Redbox later confirmed it was no longer renting games via Twitter, and provided a statement to The Verge saying that it would continue to sell games "through the end of the year."
