A Plague Tale: Innocence was one of 2019's biggest surprises, and it looks like the impact was enough to get a follow-up in motion. A report circulating today says that Asobo is currently working on a sequel, a theoretical Plague Tale 2.
Eurogamer received a statement from publisher Focus Home Interactive, who says it will be talking about Asobo's next project when the "right time" comes.
"Of course, we announced last year we are partnering with Asobo for a future project but never confirmed if it was a sequel to A Plague Tale or not - and will give more details on that title when the right time comes," Focus Home told Eurogamer.
A Plague Tale: Innocence was a pretty successful launch for both Asobo Studio and Focus Home Interactive. It's already garnered end-of-year award nominations and, alongside the Spiders' BioWare-style colonial RPG GreedFall, has resulted in a strong year for publisher Focus Home Interactive, who saw an 80% uptick in revenue. It's not a wild leap to think that Asobo and Focus Home would be eager to continue the story in some way.
Of course, considering the launch window, it's likely that A Plague Tale 2 would be targeting the PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett, rather than current consoles. Which, yikes, those machines could probably generate a lot of plague-ridden rats. Creepy.
