Report: Crackdown 3 Delayed to 2019 [Update: Microsoft Confirms 2019 Delay]

Fourth time’s the charm as Microsoft's open-world action game faces more troubles.

Microsoft issued a statement to Windows Central confirming Crackdown 3 will now come out on February 2019. You can read the full statement below:

Our fans' response to the signature antics and explosive gameplay of "Crackdown 3" has been incredible. To ensure we deliver the experience they deserve, "Crackdown 3" will be launching in Feb 2019. We look forward to sharing more on "Crackdown 3" this Sunday during the Xbox E3 2018 briefing.

Original Story

According to sources close to Crackdown 3, Microsoft has delayed the open-world action game/orb collectathon to 2019. The game had been expected to release this summer.

Reports started coming in overnight (June 6, 2018) that Crackdown 3 has been delayed into 2019. Kotaku reported on it first, citing “two people familiar with the game’s release plans”. Eurogamer then later confirmed the news via sources close to the project, though we have yet to hear an official announcement from Microsoft.

This isn’t the first time Crackdown 3 has been delayed, far from it. The game was first revealed at E3 2014, and was given an initial release window of 2016. It was then pushed back to November 2017, though that seemed to be premature, as the game was then moved to Spring 2018. Fans had hoped that a final push of Summer 2018 would be the end of the delays, but it seems now that this is unfortunately untrue.

Crackdown 3 has been worked on by multiple studios so far, with LittleBigPlanet 3 developer Sumo Digital handling the campaign, backed up by Regent Games and Ruffian Games who are helming the multiplayer component.

Despite its lengthy development and marketing cycle, Crackdown 3 is still a relatively unknown quantity. The original concepts for the game had a heavy emphasis on destructible environments, though this was largely absent from the game’s E3 2017 demo. Terry Crews is also tied to the project, and even took to the stage during E3 2017 to announce the now, long defunct release date.

This delay adds yet another glaring hole in Microsoft’s first-party line up. Hopefully it can bring the heat at E3 next week.
