The E3 2018 trailer for the Resident Evil 2 remake is violent and intense, but don't be fooled: Resident Evil 2 has its goofy side, and Capcom says that cheesy B-movie aesthetic won't be neglected in the remake.

One of the most memorable moments in Resident Evil 2 is the explosive arrival of a giant mutant alligator that chases you through the game's basement corridors. OK, let's be honest, getting stalked by a tremendous gator was a little freaky in 1998, but hindsight is everything. It's easy to laugh at the giant enemy alligator now, but maybe we won't be laughing when it makes a return in the Resident Evil 2 remake.

"I really like the alligator character and want to have it in there," Resident Evil 2 producer Yoshiaki “H” Hirabayashi told Polygon during an interview at E3. "I think it’s part of Resident Evil 2’s history, and people have lots of great memories of it."

Leatherhead isn't the only alumni returning for the remake. Fan favorites Tofu and Hunk are coming back too, Hirabayashi told Polygon. Tofu is a particularly notable addition, as he's a sentient knife-wielding block of tofu who gets things done despite his squishy body and perpetual sweating.
