Resident Evil 3 Remake Gets a Demo Later This Week

An open beta for Resident Evil Resistance will start closer to the game's release.

We're only a few weeks away from the release of Capcom's Resident Evil 3 remake, but we'll all get a chance to get up close and personal with Nemesis and his disturbingly long chompers before then. On March 19, a "Raccoon City Demo" for Resident Evil 3 is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

On March 27, one week before the official release of Resident Evil 3, an open beta for its asymmetrical co-op multiplayer portion Resident Evil Resistance will also go live.

Capcom previously teased a demo for the remake, but now we have a better idea of what part of the story it'll feature. "You'll step into the shoes of Jill Valentine as she attempts to make a desperate escape from Raccoon City as it rapidly descends into chaos," reads Capcom's official announcement for the demo. "While there's a bit more focus on action in Resident Evil 3 compared to last year's Resident Evil 2, you won't want to go in guns blazing—it may be a demo, but you'll need to conserve your ammo and items if you want to stand a chance of surviving."

A short teaser for the demo and Resistance's open beta shows off Nemesis doing something unspeakable to a guy's head and ends with a creepy shot of a Toy Uncle bobblehead figurine. A Toy Uncle storefront can be seen in an official screenshot from Resident Evil 3 that features a bunch of yet-unzombified Raccoon City residents running in the opposite direction, so maybe we'll be seeing Jill navigate the abandoned, sure-to-be-creepy shop in the demo.

The Resident Evil 3 remake will launch on April 3, 2020 for the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. For more info on what Capcom's bringing to this reimagining of Jill Valentine's harrowing trek through Raccoon city, read our recent interview with the remake's Producer Peter Fabiano.
