Resident Evil HD Remaster Mod Restores the Original Voice Acting

That which Capcom has removed, fans can mod back in.

Resident Evil HD Remaster brought the original Resident Evil screaming into 2015. The game was a remaster of the GameCube version of the title, taking those updated visuals even further. One of the changes made on the original GameCube version released in 2002 was the all-new dialog and voice acting, seeking to make the game a bit more serious than the original voice acting would allow. Like George Lucas stepping back to alter his vision of Star Wars, Mikami's intent with the REmake was to bring Resident Evil closer to what he felt the series should be.

"It looks good, but it's missing cheap voice acting recorded in the 90s."

Some fans preferred the hokey original voice acting though. The first voice cast made the first Resident Evil feel like a B-movie and many preferred that tone to the more serious one Mikami wanted. Unfortunately, there was little they could do on the GameCube version. When Resident Evil HD Remaster came out for PC though, those who wanted the original voice acting saw their chance.

A user named Bunny over at the Resident Evil Modding message board has finally finished a mod that adds all the original voice acting back into the game, cleaned up to today's standards.

"It's finally here! The mod that will bring back the awesome voice acting from the original 1996 Resident Evil," wrote Bunny. "It took me a long time to finish this mod mainly because there were more than 500 audio files to edit. And the dialogues were already mixed with sound effects like footsteps, gunshots, enemies, etc. So at some point the editing process became tedious and I had to take breaks more often."

The result is hilariously bad Resident Evil voice acting in glorious 1080p at 60 fps. If you're the kind of purist who wants their original Resident Evil experience but shinier, this is the mod for you. You can see the results in the video above and I'd say they're well worth the effort. This is why the PC is the best, folks.

You can find further examples of the mod over in the original post. There's also a link to download the mod if you have the game. If you haven't purchased it yet, Resident Evil HD Remaster is only $19.99 on Steam. If you love Resident Evil, you should take a trip back to a simpler time. A time when Chris was an old partner and Jill was the master of unlocking.
