The hallowed halls of Raccoon City's viral outbreak survivors include the likes of Leon, Jill, Chris, Ada, and Claire. Soon, one more will join them: a young man by the name of Martin Sandwich.
Revealed today on the Resident Evil Twitter, Martin Sandwich is one of the playable characters in Resident Evil Resistance, the multiplayer mode included with the upcoming Resident Evil 3 remake. He's a skilled engineer, deft with traps. Also his last name is Sandwich.

If you're not up on your Resident Evil lore, this is a pretty obvious nod to a line in the original Resident Evil where Barry, after helping Jill escape a trap room, remarks, "That was too close. You were almost a Jill sandwich!"
This is hopefully a portent that all of Resident Evil Resistance's survivors will be named after in-universe jokes. Though I do feel for poor Martin, who must suffer the weight of being named after a video game meme. It's like your parents named you Arrowto Theknee, or Mike Allyourbase.
Resident Evil Resistance will arrive April 3, 2020 as the multiplayer portion of the recently confirmed remake of Resident Evil 3, which fittingly stars Jill Valentine. Does she meet the young man, whose name was inspired by a corny dad joke made about one of her many brushes with death? We'll find out next April.
