Risk of Rain 2 Lives, Dies, Repeats on Switch Later This Summer

Blast through the cycle on the go very soon.

The endless cycle through alien worlds goes portable very soon. Sci-fi roguelike Risk of Rain 2 drops onto the Nintendo Switch later this summer.

Announced during today's Nintendo Indie World presentation ahead of Gamescom 2019, Risk of Rain 2 is a multiplayer, run-based roguelike that's all about builds. Up to four players can drop onto distant worlds and battle through waves of increasingly difficult foes, picking up power-ups and abilities along the way.

The more time you spend on each level, the more dangerous it becomes, eventually ramping up to an unstoppable horde of bosses and superpowered elites. Eventually you will lose, and then you can start all over again with one of several classes, try a new build, or bring on new friends.

Published through Gearbox, there's no word yet on the exact day Risk of Rain 2 arrives on the Nintendo Switch. It will presumably have multiplayer options, as several different survivors are shown fighting together in the trailer. Options like crossplay with Steam, where it's currently available, are a big question mark too. Gearbox says we'll learn more later this month at PAX West.

This marks a big get for the Nintendo Switch, as it appears to be the console debut of Risk of Rain 2. Hopefully the 3D roguelike makes as smooth a transition to the platform as the first game did. Be sure to check out our guide to all the streams happening today ahead of Gamescom 2019 to keep up to date.
