You can play the first River City Ransom on Nintendo's Switch Online service, or check out the recent release The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa on Switch or Steam, but there's a proper River City Ransom title on the horizon. Arc System Works and WayForward have announced a collaboration to produce River city Girls, a brand-new title based on the classic River City/Kunio-Kun series.
We're THRILLED to be teaming up with @WayForward on his brand-new, butt-kicking, girl-power take on the River City action series! "This is a really wonderful opportunity," WayForward's Voldi Way said in a press release. "Arc System Works is an extremely talented gaming company that we’ve admired for many years, and we are incredibly happy to be working with them. This new take on the River City universe is going to be a lot of fun."
"Everyone here is pleasantly surprised by the way the River City series is turning out," said Arc System Works producer Takomi Kaneko. "I think the River City series has a reputation as a 2D fighting-action game with a lot of male fans, but then River City Girls appears! WayForward’s enthusiasm for a female protagonist won me over."
Bannon Rudis, art director for River City Ransom: Underground and current WayForward employee, confirmed the title on his Twitter account. We lack any further details on the title, even a scrap of concept art or release window. More information will apparently be revealed "later in 2019."
