Red Dead Online players got a surprise over the weekend when they started stumbling across massive collections of horse carcasses strewn across the ground. It seems it was related to other issues in the game involving a reduced number of animals, and has thankfully been resolved.
Players were reporting these harrowing sights on Reddit and Twitter, detailing a number of issues but none as visually alarming as the mass of dead, burned horses. When reached for comment, Rockstar informed us that the issue had been resolved and was part of a larger error.
"The issue affecting some players in Red Dead Online that was causing reduced numbers of animals in session and other knock-on effects has been resolved," said a spokesperson for Rockstar.
Red Dead Online just had a major update, adding more story missions, tools to combat in-game griefing, and poker. This marks the game officially leaving its beta phase, though with any living game like Red Dead Online or its sibling, Grand Theft Auto Online, there will always be some hitches. Poker, for example, is unavailable for a number of regions due to local gambling regulations. But overall, it seems like players are enjoying the online western experience, or at least more now that the unexpected equine carnage has been cleared up.
