There might be a new update coming to FIFA 18 celebrating the 2018 Russia World Cup. This is according to several leaks that have been springing up on social media today which point to some kind of World Cup content for FIFA 18.
The rumors began when Twitter user @Castro1021, a prominent FIFA Twitch streamer, shared an image of a new FIFA 18 poster that promotes a "Free 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Update." You can see a photo of the new poster below.
The rumors of the update were backed up on ResetEra when users discovered a listing for a new version of FIFA 18 on Switch, PS4, and Xbox One that also advertises new World Cup 2018 content. According to the listing from video game distributor US-1 America, the new World Content 2018 content includes all 32 teams that qualified for the World Cup with the corresponding team rosters and uniform kits, as well as the four major teams that did not qualify. Meaning Chile, Italy, Holland, and the USA will be included as well despite their failure to play in the actual World Cup.
The biggest confusion at the moment is whether or not the update will be added for free. It should be noted that EA has released World Cup content for FIFA games previously to correspond with the real World Cup. But the last time this happened was during the 2014 Brazil World Cup and EA released a standalone World Cup FIFA game that year rather than a DLC add-on.
Given the prominent leaks and the fact that EA has done World Cup content for FIFA games previously, it seems likely that we can expect the same for the 2018 Russia World Cup. We reached out to EA about the leaks, but we were told the company has nothing to announce. But based one what we've heard, it seems likely we could see something soon. Hopefully before the World Cup starts in June.
