Scarlet Nexus Is a Kinetic Next-Gen Anime RPG Crafted By Former Tales Developers

Tales of Psi-Ops.

One of the more surprising trailers from today's Xbox Series X third-party showcase was for a game called Scarlet Nexus. A new action-RPG from Bandai Namco, it's certainly got the right kind of action, mixed with some telekinetic brawling and a majorly anime art style.

Announced on Inside Xbox, Scarlet Nexus is about Yuito Sumeragi, a boy talented in "psycho-kinesis" caught up in a "Brain Punk" future. I'm not sure what Brain Punk is, though it looks like a mixture of cyberpunk and telepathic powers.

Scarlet Nexus has some fast-paced battles for an RPG, and the team behind the game seems right for the task. According to an Xbox Wire blog, the project is being led by members of the development team from Tales of Vesperia, an excellent action-RPG that just got a Definitive Edition last year.

While the Tales series is headed into a new entry with Tales of Arise, this new RPG from Bandai Namco seems to be taking a similar approach in style. At E3 2019, Tales producer Yusuke Tomizawa told USgamer that Arise's move toward faster combat and an updated look were ways it hoped to entice Western players.

Scarlet Nexus seems to be going a similar route, blending RPG with Devil May Cry-style action and Psi-Ops mind powers. Its look reminds me a little more of something like Astral Chain, but altogether as a Tales fan, I'm interested in seeing what the team can bring to this new game.

No release date has been set yet for Scarlet Nexus, though it will come to both Xbox One and Xbox Series X via Smart Delivery.
