Sea of Thieves is Offering Bonus XP and Gold to Players This Weekend

To help you ready up ahead of next week's one year celebration.

As a big happy birthday to Sea of Thieves, Rare is celebrating with a big week of bonuses for players. First in line is a weekend bursting with gold and reputation boosts. Previously, Rare said that for players who are at level 50 in all the Trading Companies and have hit Pirate Legend status, a special reward will await them on the day of Sea of Thieves' one year anniversary on March 20. This weekend's festivities should be a healthy boost for players still grinding towards those levels.

Called "Glory and Gold Weekend," the boosts kick off on March 15, 4 a.m. PT / 7 a.m. ET. It will conclude on Monday, March 18 at 4 a.m. PT / 7 a.m. ET. "All you need to do to profit from this is take to the Sea of Thieves while the event is live, cashing in chests, skulls and other trade goods as normal," the blog announcement reads.

On March 20, in addition to awarding dedicated pirates with goodies, Rare will be unveiling the details about the long-awaited big update. The developer has already teased "The Arena" mode, pets, and story quests, but beyond that, it's largely a mystery of what awaits us among the seven seas.

Sea of Thieves also opened up its Insider Programme again. The Insider Programme allows players to sign up for preview builds, to test and see new content before the general public. It requires an NDA, but otherwise you'll be able provide feedback to the developers and see new Sea of Thieves content early. "Insiders" will also be rewarded with in-game currency and exclusive cosmetics. Insider updates will be sent out at a weekly cadence.

All in all, Sea of Thieves has shaped up to be a pretty neat multiplayer game, despite its barren launch. Like other live service games from 2018, it's slowly proving itself. On March 20, we'll see if that dedication to content keeps flowing in a way that keeps its players happy. Until then, yo ho, yo ho...
