Sea of Thieves Downtime This Weekend

Sea of Thieves Downtime This Weekend

Here there be connection errors.

Sea of Thieves' strong debut means the multiplayer pirate game is sailing with the wind behind it. But have a care, buccaneers: Rare needs to dock the game for a few hours this weekend to perform some maintenance.

Rare's launch status blog for Sea of Thieves outlines the game's successes and problems to date. Long story short, the game's debut was good—a little too good for the servers. Players are having trouble logging in at peak times, and certain achievements and items are delayed, or not arriving at all. There are also some performance issues with the Xbox One version of the adventure.

Rare is hoping to hammer out some of these problems with Sea of Thieves during the scheduled downtime. Don't expect to be able to access the game during these days and hours:

  • Saturday March 24th, 9am–2pm GMT (2am-7am PT)
  • Tuesday March 27th, 9am–2pm GMT (2am-7am PT)

While this downtime won't be too painful for those of us in North America (especially on the west coast), it's going to be a bummer for anyone who's hoping to play the game over the weekend in Europe and the UK. Think of it as a dose of medicine: A sour draught now will result in better performance in the long-term.
