The Sea of Thieves Beta is Having Connectivity Issues, Matey

Some players can't connect to the closed beta.

The closed beta for Rare's Sea of Thieves is technically underway, but there's a notable hiccup. Some players who should be able to access the beta (that is, players who pre-ordered the game or joined the Sea of Thieves Insider Program last year) are getting error messages when they try and join.

The error message informs the unfortunate player it's "too early" to join the game, even though they should be cleared to set sail. Rare's been working on a fix for some hours at the time of this writing, and says it'll sound the all-clear as soon as it gets a handle on the problem. Don't string up the crew for shark bait just yet.

Fortunately, people have enough pirate joke and references to sustain their good humor for a while.

Sea of Thieves comes to PC and Xbox One on March 20. If you're playing the Closed beta and don't know what you're doing, check out our guide to getting started in Sea of Thieves.
