Sea of Thieves Unleashes the Kraken in New Leaked Images

Sea of Thieves Unleashes the Kraken in New Leaked Images

Also, a server scale test will be held for select Xbox Insiders.

If we've learned anything from Pirate stories, it's that nothing strikes fear into the hearts of salty sea dogs like the Kraken. So it only makes sense that Rare hid the mythical kraken in the Sea of Thieves, the studio's online co-op pirate game. While, Rare has been reluctant to speak of the kraken outside of press events, it appears someone has leaked images of the in-game kraken fight, which we've been able to verify as legitimate.

Rare showed footage of the kraken to members of the press recently, which various outlets have detailed. In addition, dataminers have found files related to the kraken, making the mysterious creature not-so mysterious in the weeks leading up to the Sea of Thieves launch. You can see the screenshots of the Kraken below.

The leaked images first appeared on 4Chan before ending up on Resetera. The images were grabbed off-screen, but the images are legible enough to see exactly how the kraken battles will function.

Basically, the kraken is one tough nut. It can throw players overboard, or eat them, or throw them across the map, and destroy entire ships. Players will be able to tell when a kraken is nearby when the water turns murky, and the kraken's ink seeps up from the ocean. Players will either want to prepare for the big battle, or run away when the kraken rears its ugly head.

We had a chance recently to visit Rare Studios where we got a chance to look at the end game content, and dig up some cool facts not previously known about the game. For a full look, be sure to also check out our Sea of Thieves guide for the latest info.

Rare will be hosting a Sea of Thieves scale test this weekend, a closed beta only available to Xbox Insiders. But another beta will be held before the game's release.

Sea of Thieves sets sail on March 20 for the Xbox One and PC.
