Sea of Thieves Players Can Play Together With Friends Who Don't Own the Game

Pirate with your buds.

Rare is letting you show off how cool Sea of Thieves is to your friends, thanks to an upcoming "Friends Play Free" event. For a limited time, Sea of Thieves players can invite up to three friends who don't own Sea of Thieves to join them on the high seas for free.

From February 6-13, Sea of Thieves players who either own a copy of the game or play it through Xbox Game Pass, can send up to three gift codes to their friends. They can then redeem the code and play Sea of Thieves with the host friend, even if they don't own the game or subscribe to Xbox Game Pass.

As part of the Sea of Thieves introductory primer, Rare is releasing a limited-time event called Mercenary Voyage. It includes a playlist of "quintessential Sea of Thieves activities" that will give your new crew a quickhits playlist of all the best activities in Sea of Thieves, and ultimately lead you to the treasure of the Rum Runner. Completion of the event will net players a special Mercenary cosmetic.

Anyone who redeems a Friends Play Free code will receive a 35 percent discount when they buy Sea of Thieves digitally on Xbox One or Windows 10, but that deal will only last between February 6-27. Rare is also teasing a special announcement for Sea of Thieves for March 20, the one-year anniversary for Sea of Thieves.

Sea of Thieves' "Friends Play Free" promotion is available for any player on Xbox One or Windows 10 PC. You can claim your guest codes on the Sea of Thieves website. For more, check out our Sea of Thieves guide for our best tips to get you and your friends started on your new pirate adventure.
