This week, Sega turns 60 years old! To celebrate the momentous occasion, the company announced a brand new product: the Game Gear Micro.
This tiny thing is adorable. You can check it out in the announcement trailer just below. There are four colors available: red, blue, black, and yellow, and each handheld retails for $50.
Each handheld comes with four pre-loaded games, but the list of games varies between each color console. You'll get Sonic the Hedgehog , Puyo Puyo 2, Out Run, and Royal Stone if you buy the black model, for example, whereas you'll get Sonic Chaos, Gunstar Heroes, Sylvan Tale, and Baku Baku Animal if you buy the blue version of the Game Gear Micro.
The yellow model Game Gear Micro gets you three Shining Force games: The Sword of Hajya, Final Conflict, and Ensei - Jashin no Kuni he, as well as Nazopuyo Aruru no Ru. Finally, the red version comes pre-loaded with Revelations: The Demon Slayer, Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special, The GG Shinobi, and Columns.
The handheld itself is tiny, being 80 millimeters wide and 43 millimeters long. It has one headphone jack, and can be charged via a USB cable or reloaded with two batteries.
It definitely seems like Sega is angling this handheld more toward collectors given the different games pre-loaded on each version. Right now, the Game Gear Micro is unfortunately only available for pre-order in Japan, with an October 6 release date. There's no word yet on a western release for the handheld.
