Sega Will Announce the Yakuza Developer's New Console IP Next Month

It's an IP three years in the making.

Yakuza series director Toshihiro Nagoshi revealed in a livestream that the Yakuza studio is ready to announce their new IP which according to him has been three years in the making. The announcement is scheduled for Tokyo Game Show.

We've known since earlier this year that Sega has been developing a new IP from the makers of Yakuza, thanks to an announcement in Famitsu back in April. The new IP from the Yakuza team was specifically said to be for home consoles, so whatever it is, it's a big project.

With reception to the Yakuza franchise riding high, this is probably as good a time as any to announce a new IP from the Sega studio. Yakuza sales have been growing, and North America is finally becoming a receptive market to Sega's Japan-focused crime games. Sega recently released Yakuza Kiwami 2 in North America and Yakuza 0 and Kiwami on PC as well.

For the latest from the Yakuza team, check out our Yakuza Kiwami 2 review, and stay tuned when we find out what exactly the Yakuza development team's new IP could be at Tokyo Game Show next month.
