Shadow of the Colossus and Ico creator Fumito Ueda shared the first details of his new game earlier today, revealing that while the project is still very early he and his team are shooting for something on scale with his previous games.
In an interview with Famitsu, Ueda confirmed the development of "a completely new title" that's still very early. So early that it's really just him and his GenDesign team conducting "various trials" on different ideas to "test if they're interesting or not." [Famitsu via Variety]
Ueda's new game is being backed by Kowloon Nights, a video game design fund that backs unique games. But don't call Ueda's next title "indie" as he says he's pushing for a game that's on the same "scale" as Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.
"If larger-scale development becomes of interest to us, then I think we will significantly expand our development system and take it to a large-scale development team to make it a big game," says Ueda which opens the possibility of even more ambitious sizes if the project comes to it.
Back in January of this year GenDesign updated its website with a mysterious image of a small, glowing person lying next to a giant figure. This might not be Ueda's next game, but merely an art asset for the company. But considering how early Ueda's next project is anything is possible.
