Shadow of the Tomb Raider has been a long time coming. The game was first leaked after passengers on a subway took photos of a man's laptop with details of the game. Even now, a day before Square Enix's own reveal for the next Tomb Raider game, that trailer has already been shared online thanks to French moviegoers.
Earlier today, Square Enix released a new website and counter which will unlock tomorrow with details of the new Tomb Raider game. The video was supposed to come out in conjunction with the new Tomb Raider movie, which also comes out tomorrow. Thanks to the curious nature of time, moviegoers in France who are already watching the new Tomb Raider film, were apparently treated to the Shadow of the Tomb Raider trailer that's supposed to launch tomorrow.
You can see a hand recorded version of the video shared across social media like Facebook and Twitter.
The new trailer, which looks largely CG and which even the footage says is not indicative of the actual game, shows Lara Croft as she runs through the jungle, taking out armed guards, before finally standing in front of what looks to be Mesoamerican temples.
The setting for Shadow of the Tomb Raider was also known in advance thanks to some leaked design illustrations. Those images, which showed Lara in front of ancient, Mesoamerican structures, looks to be corroborated in the new trailer.
Which means that if all other leaked details are accurate, the game's September 14 release date, which also leaked, could also be true. We should have new details tomorrow or at E3 since the CG trailer indicates that more details will be revealed this Spring.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is being described as the final chapter in Lara's origin story following the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot and the 2015 sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is being developed by Eidos Montreal, taking over for Crystal Dynamics who are busy working on an untitled Avengers game with Marvel.
