Shenmue 3 Team Shows Off Characters' Facial Expressions

Reserved parking for the world's angriest grandma.

Last month, we got our first trailer for the Kickstarter-funded Shenmue 3. Reactions to the new media were generally favorable, save for one issue: The characters lacked facial expressions.

In the trailer, series hero Ryo, his friends, and his enemies are stiffer-faced than Barbie dolls. As viewers turned away in mild shock and confusion, game director Yu Suzuki assured the world Shenmue 3's characters will emote in the final build.

Today, we have confirmation the Shenmue 3 team is working hard at bridging the uncanny valley. The latest Dev Room Progress Report shows Ys Net's animators messing around with a grandma's face.

Shenmue 3, which is being published by Deep Silver, is coming to the PlayStation 4 in the latter half of 2018.
