Skyrim: Very Special Edition is Bethesda's Very Good Joke About Bringing Skyrim to Literally Everything [Update: It's Real]

Skyrim on the Amazon Echo.

According to an Amazon listing, the Skyrim: Very Special Edition for Amazon Echo might be real. We are currently trying to test it out on our Echo devices and will update you with our campaign.

Original Story

There is a legend that Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim director Todd Howard will not rest until Skyrim is available on every platform. Well that proved to be true tonight during Bethesda's E3 2018 press conference when the company announced Skyrim: Very Special Edition, a very good joke about bringing Skyrim to the Amazon Echo.

Skyrim: Very Special Edition was shown off in a trailer starring Keegan Michael-Key, one half of the comedy duo Key and Peele. Key demoed several new versions of Skryim including one that was playable on the Amazon Echo as a voice-controlled adventure. Then thre were other versions of Skyrim on platforms like an etch-and-sketch, pager, and a Samsung smart refrigerator.

While this is obviously a joke, it was a very well-made joke and I genuinely want the Amazon Echo version of Skyrim: Very Special Edition. I can actually see myself sitting in front of my Echo for hours doing a voice-controlled fantasy Skyrim campaign.

Alas, until Bethesda actually commits to translating hundreds of hours of Skyrim into a voice campaign we will just have to settle for Skyrim on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. For more on Bethesda's E3 2018 press conference see our E3 2018 guide for the latest updates.
