Sony Finally Announces Slim PlayStation 4 Slim (For Real)

The console that we've known about for weeks now will be available next week.

We've known about the Slim PlayStation 4 for ages now, but that didn't deter Sony from leading off their press conference with the official reveals of their new console.

Sony Interactive Entertainment president Andrew House began by revealing that the Slim PlayStation will be available in most markets on September 15. It will cost $299.

The Slim and the Pro have been rumored for a while now. In fact, it actually ended up making it into homes well ahead of its announcement, and our sister site Eurogamer actually saw one and posted pictures.

This is not the first time that Sony has struggled with leaks. For instance, back in 2009, 1UP posted extensive information about then-unannounced PSP Go, even going so far as to produce an accurate mockup of the device. Back in 2013, early pictures of the PlayStation 4's controller emerged well ahead of the system's official announcement.

Regardless, the PlayStation 4 Slim will soon be available for those who haven't jumped into this generation and don't feel like paying a premium for PlayStation 4 Pro. Stay tuned for additional coverage once we have the final console in hand.
