PlayStation Plus users hoping for some free soccer this month are going to be disappointed. Sony has, just on the brink of the month, swapped out Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 for Detroit: Become Human, which also comes packaged with Heavy Rain.
Konami's FIFA competitor had been on the deck to sweep in on a very timely note, given the current fervor around the U.S. Women's World Cup taking place right now. (Go USA!) But rather than booting soccer balls across the pitch and lining up splendid corners, PlayStation Plus users can explore the world of David Cage's robot wonderland and solve a murder mystery. Also, make sure to press the Jason button a lot.
It's a little bizarre to see a curveball like this at the last second; even the PlayStation blog just has an update and some strikethroughs to note where edits have happened. There's no details yet on why exactly PES had to be swapped out. At least Quantic Dream was on stand-by to pick up the slack though, alongside Horizon Chase Turbo, which remains on the docket for July.
While Detroit: Become Human has some impressive threading in its narrative, weaving together choices in a flowchart that's impressive to see in action, it's also chock-full of ridiculous, over-the-top moments that Cage has also become infamous for. This includes a special surprise at the end that baffles me to this day. It's just something else. Feel free to check that out, or the more well-received Heavy Rain, if you're a Plus user this month.
